ESI Registration and Filing
The Employee’s State Insurance Act (ESI) was enacted in 1948 and provides medical benefits, cash benefits, and other benefits to employees and their families. The ESI Act is regulated by the Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and is applicable to all establishments that have ten or more employees. In this article, we will discuss ESI registration and filing.
ESI Registration:
ESI registration is mandatory for all employers who come under the purview of the ESI Act. Any employer who has ten or more employees is required to register for ESI within 15 days of the applicability of the act. ESI registration provides medical, sickness, and maternity benefits to the employees of the organization.
Documents required for ESI registration:
- PAN card of the organization
- Registration certificate of the organization
- Bank statement or canceled cheque of the organization
- List of all employees with their name, age, gender, and salary
- Address proof of the organization
- ID proof of the authorized signatory of the organization
- Business registration proof
- Details of the directors of the organization
ESI Filing:
After registering for ESI, an employer is required to file ESI returns. The ESI returns are to be filed twice a year, i.e., once for the period of April to September and the other for the period of October to March. The ESI returns can be filed online through the ESIC portal.
Documents required for ESI filing:

- Proof of the contributions made by the organization towards ESI for the period for which the return is to be filed
Benefits of ESI registration:
